Why Google Earth is An Amazing iPhone App

Google Earth is one of the neatest computer applications to come out in recent years if you ask me. The community that has grown around Google Earth is amazing and the iPhone App is almost as impressive.

Google is constantly updating this application with the most recent coming only a few weeks ago on December 9, 2009.

Still remaining one of the most popular applications on the iPhone, Google Earth app is an exciting piece of software. With many of the features from the desktop version coming over to it, including Wikipedia and Panoramio (photos that are listed on the map by location so you can see real pictures from some of the most famous (and not so famous) locations in the world.

Google Earth iPhone App has added many more features since I have last logged in, including the ability to tilt your phone and seen mountain landscapes as if you are there, looking at them from the ground, instead of from the sky, like the rest of Google Earth.

The ability to search on Google Earth App for iPhone and iPod Touch is one of the best features, you can search for just about anything, including locations, restaurants, landmarks, and more. Another fun feature is being able to use the Location feature (much like the search feature) and use your actual GPS coordinates and have the map fly to you, from wherever you were browsing before. So if I was in South America looking at the Sahara desert on my Google Earth Application, while I was riding the train from Boston to NYC, it would then fly around the word to my current location so I could see exactly what landmarks, businesses, or just other cool attractions were around me at that time.

Google Earth is a great piece of software on both the iPhone and personal computer (mac, windows, pc versions available) and I recommend everyone checks it out, even if it is just to browse your neighborhood.
